Tunze Turbelle NanoStream Pump 6045

Greetings,

I'm looking to purchase a Tunze Turbelle NanoStream Pump 6045, primarily for its small size.

Reading the reviews at marinedepot, it appears that it's not really meant to be put on a wave-timer device -- which is what i want to do.

I'm not too concerned w/ the reduced longevity. Though, I do hope someone can estimate how long it might last if I set it on a 1 minute interval. Does it make a difference if I up it to 5 min?

In any case, my main concern is the reports of "clacking" on startup.

When reading the reviews, I am cognizant of the fact that many of them are old and there may have been updates to the product since the time those reviews were written.

How is the latest model -- again, the 6045 -- with respect to the above?

If it is strongly recommended NOT to use this on a wave timer, are there any suggestions for similarly sized pumps?

Thanks!
Bob

It is strongly recommended that our non-controllable pumps do not be used on a wave timer and doing so will void the warranty. (It's difficult to say with any certainty, but I'd suspect that the added costs of frequently replacing damaged impellers and the shortened lifespan of the 6045 would negate any long-term cost savings in not just purchasing a controllable pump to begin with.)

For similarly sized pumps you could choose from the 6055 or the 6095. These are both quite a bit stronger than the 6045, but as DC pumps are designed from the ground up to be fully controllable. Alternatively, you could run the 6045 constantly on (best choice) or have it turn on and off every hour or so.

They will click on every start, unfortunately, propeller pumps only work spinning in one direction, unlike most impeller pumps, because of this a mechanism is needed to correct direction. Unless a pump is controllable and has an electonically aided start up, this means a mechanical system and that is what causes the noise. In general, within 3 months with rapid on and off, the propeller will break, if not noticed this can cause the motor itself to fail. While other manufacturers claim to have solved this with soft rubber stops for the prop, if you read up on the long term real world results, you will see what usually happens is the rubber sheers off or pulls out within a year. The only way to do this correctly is a controllable model pump.
