what do you prefer, think is better?

pro's con's?
please post if you think something is better then these two options

If money is no object, the Tunze Streams are more powerful and the multi controller is just amazing. They've been around for a while, and have a reputation for being very reliable. Also, Tunze offers a safety factor in that no AC current runs through the submerged pump (the pumps are DC powered).

Koralia pumps are less expensive, smaller and less powerful. They have a great mounting system that's included. You have the option to put them on a traditional wavemaker/timer to switch them on and off. But, like any traditional powerhead, that may shorten the pump's life. Long term reliability is unknown, but the low price makes that less of an issue.

For large systems, Tunze are a great option when you need huge flow. I'm very happy with my Tunze equipment (even with the considerable cost) and would not consider replacing them with anything else. However, for small to medium sized systems, korallias are probably a good fit.

Some will also recommend the Vortech pumps. My biggest complaint with these is that they offer zero directional adjustment because of the way they mount. Also, as a newer product, they've definitely had their share of kinks to work out.

i voted koralia cause thats what i have :p but we all know koralia is the broke man's tunze :lmao:

Well Said!

I like my Vortech a lot better than the Tunze I had in the tank before it. it takes up less space and add's less heat to the tank.

I tend to go for proven track records over price. SO I would have to go Tunze over Koralia until the Koralia's have been around longer.

exactly.. (thats me :( )

I'm for Koralia cause I'm cheap, and I don't expect them to last forever. But hooked up to a Wavemaster Pro I get excellent random flow in my tanks. So far, aside breaking the shaft on one (my fault, but new shafts are SS), I haven't lost one.

I have both in my 150. Just looking at the tank, you can see the difference. Tunze is great, but the Korilia does a goog job. With SPS, In a 150+ tank, IMO I would only run Tunzes.

i have had all of those and the vortec.
Vortec:
PRO: I like the vortec best to far based on flow pattern (i have the vortec at 100% in a 110 4 ft tank with no prob) and on the space and heat that they save me. No electrical components in the water equals no risk of electrical shock.
CON: They cant be pointed in the tank other than straight ahead. though the flow is so dispersed that it doesnt bother me too much.

Tunze:
PRO:I had 2 6100 tunze with controller. I loved the controller loved their ease and reliability.
Cons: Huge units, I also don’t like how direct the flow is, makes it hard to run at 100% even in my 125 long.

Koralia:
PRO: Cheap considering the other options. And I love the mounting best out of all of them.
CONS: As far as the koralia they are pretty big considering how much they push and from what i have read should not be put on a on-off wavemaker or they wont last. Thier flow is soooo broad that it doesn’t seem to move as much. Not too much cheaper than the Nano Streams.

Well said Ray.

Remember buy ONCE!

So in the long run if u end up buying 3-4 k's one tunze will do;)

I vote 100% FOR TUNZE. Yes we all buy cheap and think we can get away with it but in reality it never works period.......
its better to save $ and get a better piece of equipment.

Just for the record, tunze makes a more affordable model that is just as good and strong but it cannot be controlled, it works in certain app. and not in others, but if you need is flow and lots of it tunzes are def the way to go.

Koralia 4 $50 modded 6025 $60.

tunze is smaller, stronger magnets, better flow pattern(in my opinion compared to the k1)

oh and more position options.

I would advise anyone to spend a little extra and get the Tunze. I've bought two Koralia #2s and one Koralia #1. All lasted less than two months before they started leaking current into my tank and triping my GFCI. The #1 lasted less than a week.

Also, Tunze customer service is wonderful. I had a shaft break on one of my 6045s and they had a whole new motor to my doorstep in two day after a simple email. I didn't have to send them the broken pump, show a receipt, or anything.

As for Hydor's customer service? well.... it took five calls and 30 minutes on hold to talk to someone. I sent my defective pumps in, I'm still waiting on them to send replacements.

Good luck,

I voted other,

I have a pair of 6000 Streams and the 7095 controller and while it's really nice, it's bloody expensive as hell . If you have the money go Tunze, if not the MJ900/1200's modded are nice

I'm moving over the tunzes to my new tank , and adding a pair of MJ900s with the sureflow 1600 mod & Seio Controller.
