Turaki placement

Its been a while since Ive had a turaki and I picked one up sunday at a LFS. Its a baby blue multibranched piece but its not looking so hot from the dip. Ive had issue with some of the enchinatas struggling after dips but so far its holding on. The other 7 frags are all doing well so it had to be the dip...but back to my original inquiry- where do you guys keep your Turakis? I have mine 4" off the sandbed mounted on LR under an ATI 8x24w sunpower. Does it need higher light eventually? Ill slowly move it up once it starts to rebound.

Dipping them usually results in RTN; having said that I keep both my blue and purple about 24" below a 8x54w T5 setup.

I just got home and Im not confident it will make it. kind of a catch22, damned if you dip and damned if you dont.

yeah I was really bummed and had a similar experience. I got a good deal on a mini colony and didn't know not to dip and so I dipped mine like I do every other coral and it died about 2 days later.

I shoulda learned when I bought a small hawkins colony (for 20$ because the LFS screwed up my debit card and felt bad) and the coral didnt survive a day after the dip.

From now on Im clipping the frag at the base and then doing a very careful inspection but no dip on acros of this species. 1 QUESTION: have people had a similar experience with all smooth skinned deepwater acros? like carolina, tenella? loripes? turaki? enchinata? ect..

I will say that the Turaki is still holding on as of this morning. still not happy but its been 3 full days without rtn...FINGERS CROSSED!!

yes, i don't dip unless I know it will survive the dip.. but I also have aefw & red bugs.. so there isn't much point in dipping when you are already infected.
