Turbo on his back...how long will he last?

I have a turbo snail that sometimes (maybe once every 10 days) falls on is back. I have a 12 gal aquapod, so i'm kinda worried that if he were to die, it could spike the tank and I could lose livestock. I always stick him back on the glass as soon as I find him on his back, but i'm wondering what will happen if he falls while i'm out of town for any length of time.

So how long can they last on their back without dieing? And if he were to die, would it hurt my tank?

It should be able to flip itself right back over.Leave it for a few minutes and observe it and see if it does or not.

I'm curious about this myself... if it were to die how would that affect the tank, if left unnoticed.

On another note, this last time he flipped over, i tried to put him on the glass, he kind of stuck, but then fell again w/in the next hour. I put him on the sand to see if he would move. He went the whole night without moving, so this morning i took him out, smelled him, didnt smell bad, and i tried to touch him and he pulled into the shell. I though he might have been dead, but he isnt. Could he be dying though? Do they go into periods of little activity? If this continues today, i may just have to pitch him to be on the safe side. Let me know if this is normal though.

Hi:

I am a bit new at saltwater tanks, I had several instences when my turbos do that, fall off the tank and can barely right themselves. If you help him and he run off happy, he will be ok, but if he sstops moving for a while, he will most likely die real soon. Yes, it will spike the ammo in your 12 gal pod.

Depending on the species of snail you have (a LOT of snails are called "turbos") it may or may not be able to flip over. There are times they go into a period of little activity, but it could be that it is dying or simply not comfortable in your tank.

What is your salinity at? Temperature? Nitrates? Calcium? How long have you had the snail and how old is the tank?
