I just wanted to post this in the newbie section so that nobody would make the same mistake! Today I decided that I would check on a turbo snail that had moved up under a rock and had not moved for a few days. I thought that he was one that had been feeding on the rocks above the same area a few days before and maybe he was just taking it easy for a bit..... WRONG! I noticed when I walked in today that the one that I had seen feeding last week in that area did not have as much corraline growing on it so I decided to check on him. So I stretch my arm down to the bottom of my tank and ease him out from under the rock. Well as I am pulling him up to the top of the tank a chunk of what use to be a living snail falls out of the shell and instantly I recieve this shock of some form of gas that had to be discussed somewhere during the Geneva Convention! I instantly let out a huge gag and just about dropped my cookies in the tank. Well here I am gagging with a turbo snail shell in my right hand and trying to snag the chunk of toxic waste from my tank with my left hand while my clownfish attacks me and the chunk of goo is headed for the back corner of my tank! I just about had the blob until I had another huge gag and the blob (from the best I could tell) vanished into the abyss of my rockwork. Now the ENTIRE house smells like I have a dead body in my bathtub and my hands smell like I well I will not even go there!
So the moral of this story is if you have anything in your tank that should be moving and it's not you need to check on it! Also anytime you have a snail show up that may be dead you better slip a ziplock bag over your hand and try to get all of him in the bag before you try to drag him out!
Well got to go...
I have to go clorox my hands now!
