Turboflotor 1000 Question

I have been running a turboflotor for a few weeks now and have found it is producing a very wet skimmate. It advertised a dry skimmate but I can't seem to get it set right. Does any one have any suggestions. It is on the overflow from the main tank.

You can reduced the flow through the skimmer by placing a ball or gate valve on the input. Also, make sure that the 2 valves on the output riser tubes (grey colored i think) are wide open or even remove them completely. The other possible solution would be to put an air valve on the air input line to reduce the air pull through the skimmer. I would focus on the amount of water you are running through it though first. HTH

I have a ball valve on the water flow to the skimmer already and have reduced the water flow to the unit. I think I will try to reduce the the amount of air going to the unit because I read that there is only supposed to be about 75% bubbles in the body of the skimmer and I have about 95% bubbles. Thanks for the advice.

Are the lines on the two valves pointing away from the body? You need to lower the water level, and thats the way to do it.

It is very wet... like brown water and yes the lines are pointing away from the body. It will fill up in about a day and take out to much salt water so I lowered the flow for now.

I've been running mine for three years now, I feed the skimmer with a MJ900, don't run the valves, and run a valve on the air intake.

It gets me about a cup of black muck each week in the collection cup.

Is that stuff you get reallt think or thin? I am getting a valve for the airline just gotta find one. Thanks for the help

I also tossed the valves on the riser tubes and feed with a MJ900. I only use a valve on the air intake when I do water changes or tank maintenance and then only for a day or so until it settles down again. My wife hates it when I dump the cup in the sink and rinse it out. I have smelled wastewater treatment plants that smell better than the stuff that it collects.

How high is the water rising in the main column? It may still be too much flow. Try removing the caps completely for a few days and see if that helps.

i have the valve closed almost completly and only a very small amount of flow in the overflow tubes. how much should I have flowing through the drains?

The tubes are flowing about 1/2 to 3/4 full and the water level in the main column is just below the top with the cup removed.

so I actually have to littleflow. Hopefully I can get that valve for the air on there today and increase the flow

I run mine with a 270gph power head and have no valve on the air tube, sometimes i have to pull the level adjustment tubes out, sometimes just one, but for the most part i run everything wide open, also check your Ph and Calcium, if there low you will get weak output form any skimmer, adding Kalk will cause a skimmer to perform better, but check those levels first. Good Luck

I have 133 gal/hr so I think I am good on the flow. I do need to do some test on alk and calcium but I am not very familar with the whole kalk think. I would like to set up a kalk drip but I am not really sure about how to do it. I have been reading up on it so hopefully soon I can start on that.
I got the valve on the air intake but I pretty much have it wide open so I will have to see how that works

Do you happen to use tap water and a dechlor chemical like Stress Coat, Amquel or anything like that? If so that makes them skim very wet for several days afterwards. If you are using tap water a carbon filter for chlorine removal is much better but a RO is even better and a RO/DI is best.

I have a ro/di unit and that is what I have been using. I am going to check tommorrow and see how things are looking.
