Turning uncontrolable Streams on/off

I have one of the uncontrolable streams Tunze makes (I forget the model) and was wondering what harmful effects would come from putting it on a timer that starts and shuts it down every hour? Will this cause it to wear out prematurely?

Every hour no problem. If you cycled it faster it would shorten the life of the drive unit, if the drive unit was broken and unattended for long enough- say 2 weeks, it could ruin the pump. The manual provides for 24 1hr interval on/off cycles per day.
The brakes are damaged/ruined by quick starts and stops such as on wavemakers as they never have sufficient time to retract and run normally.
