Tuxedo urchin how to know if dead

I have my urchin that is not moving but it tenticals are still moving around in water colum..

It it gone.

Just don't want a ammonia spike as I have a 6g nano.

6 gallons is pretty small for an urchin...could it have starved?

Yeah I think that 6 gallons is a bit too small. IME, inverts that are dead still have small parts moving around

But it's been in my tank for over a year and doing fine.

And it's not dead it was playing dead.

Well I poked it with a stick it didn't do anything.
I moved it went upside down
As it normally attached to the glass or a rock.
Then 2 hours later it was back eating on the glass cleaner.

So as you asked. It looked pretty dead to me that's why I asked the question in the first place.

If you can, pick up the invertebrate and sniff it. You'll definitely find out.
