twin spot gobies success rate

What is the long term success rate for these guys? I am thinking about a pair but most things seem to say they eventually die from lack of nutrients in the sand. I have a 55gal reef system, no fugium

Even though their awesomeness knows no bounds, I avoid this species. Success is almost unheard of.

And this is an aquarist who keeps expert level fish.

that was my thoughts i just wanted to verify. why do they die off? just not enough microfauna in the sand or something to last them? I have a sea-cucumber to clean up the sand but im looking for something else to clean it as well aside form nassarius snails. any ideas?

They starve. Its a bit unclear why they're so very hard but I suspect you're on the right track with the depleted sand bed.

Very poor I know first hand lessons learn ed three times already in 15o with fuge and lots of live rock

I've had good success with both Hector's and Rainsford's and they both sift a little. Both also like some thread/hair algae to munch. They are not "worker" fish on either count.
