Twitching Green Chomis

I have 5 Green Chromis that have been in my tank for about 2 weeks (I never had a chance to Quarantine the).

One of them is leaving the other 4 and stays in the corner of the tank and twitches.

As soon as i approach the tank and all Chromis swim over he joins them.
When i feed them he eats too (they have all eaten well since day 1).

Only other tank inhabitants are 2 x Banggai Cardinal and a small lawnmower Blenny.

Water Parameters are:-

Salinity = 1.0.25
Nitrates = Undetectable
Phosphates = Undetectable (I do have an algae bloom issue at the moment)
PH = 8.1
Temp 26 Deg

Is this likely to be a parasite ?
Are the rest of my fish at risk?
Any suggestions what course of action to take?

Tanks size is 500 Litres and he is actually one of the largest Chromis in the group.

Ill keep any eye on him.

Well the fish is still alive but twitching a lot.

Ive read that this could be related to a parasite called fluke?
as my quarantine tank is currently in use people have recommended dipping the fish in fresh water for a few mins.

Anybody had any experience with this method for fish exhibiting similar symptoms?
 
Look really close at there Dorsal fin.. If its Darker in color then the rest . its a FEMALE Trying to get a male attention to spawn.. I had two that started doing that.. Always went to the same spot and looked like it was having some kind if fit........OK i ASSUME that is the female. It could be a male trying to get a female to spawn with him. I really do not know how they spawn other then i have watched them in my tank at least 10 times .

The above said. If none of the other chromis respond it could be as others mentioned..
 
Looks like i have a 2nd Chromis now twitching so ill give it a fresh water dip and see what happens.

My only question, do you think i should dip all fish a precaution?
 
It could be flukes. I had a chromis that did the same thing. If it looks almost like it's trying to shake something off of its head, it's probably flukes.
 
Wow how hard is it to catch Chromis!

I have a 5ft tank, and i really dont want to pull out my rock.
Any products or suggestions how i catch 5 Chromis?

Take a water bottle and cut the top 3" off, then turn the top part you cut off around and insert it into the bottom so the lid/drinking area is inside the bottom piece facing the bottom of the water bottle. Place food in the container and sink it to the bottom. Its a quick DIY fish trap. Check back in about 5 mins. It's how I caught my damsel to get it out after it began eating my green torch...
 
Here's an easy way of catching some fish that I kinda of discovered of accident.
*note it takes a while before this will work.
When I feed frozen, I defrost and strain into a net and then place the net in the tank inside out and let the flow take the food away. Over time I've found that fish learn that net = food and once they come to the top you can easily catch them this way. This doesn't work with all fish, as some tend to be bottom and mid level feeders that don't come to the surface near the net.
 
Prazipro proved to be reef safe for me when i used it in my 55g when first starting.

If you have a very established aquarium it may not be worth the risk, but i didnt notice anything beside a few ****ed off featherdusters that recovered fine.

I would not recommend it as the first option, but if no other options are available, you can use prazipro in the display.
 
Well my tank is 150 Gallons so dosing in the DT is not really practical.

Ive managed to get hold of a Quarantine tank so im gonna try and pull out either the Chromis (if i can catch them) or my cardinals until is sort this out.

The owner of a local fish shop told me today that a cleaner wrasse or a red line shrimp may also help with removing flukes but he wasn't convinced it would get them all. Has anyone had any help with Cleaners?

150 gallon tank and no 5 gallon bucket for QT? M-kay.

The LFS owner is cracked. All that will end up doing is infecting more fish. Unwise and would not help.

Prazipro at this point. Why do you think you can't dose your 150 gallon tank?

No. A cleaner wrasse will likely just die and pester the heck out of any fish in that size tank. Not a high success rate for cleaner wrasse from my understanding. And they wont do anything for flukes.The cleaner shrimp wont do anything for flukes either.

Two treatments of Prazi is the only way.

If you can QT great, if not i would consider dosing the tank with Prazipro. Like i mentioned previously, it would not be my first course of action, but if left with no other options, it has proven to be reef safe.
 
Thanks for all the advice. How long does my tank need to be host free before any flukes/ eggs die and I can start adding fish back?
 
The worm lives for about a week and drops eggs which hatch out with 2 to 4 days. If the larvae doesn't find a host it dies.
So according to that a few weeks would probably be best.
 
^^ this is why people recommend two treatments of Prazipro. Prazipro will not kill the eggs, so a second treatment is necessary.
