Two casualties in 24 hours, please help

This is the abridged version as I closed my "preview post" in error and just lost 15 minutes of typed data.

All was well in my tank I thought.

I purchased a hippo tang 4/17/2014.

White spots noticed 4/19/2014

Purchased amino acids, garlic, neon gobys and cleaner shrimp to help.

I do not have a hospital tank.

Spots were not visible yesterday on the hippo.

He did not make it through the night last night and this morning I find my yellow tang is struggling to breathe.

I do not want the rest of my fish to perish and need to act immediately.

I am looking for any solutions to assist in saving the lives of the rest of my fish.

I am going to a LFS today to buy a hospital tank.

What size?
What water do I fill it with?
What salinity?
How do I cycle it fast?
Do I place live rock in there?

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks:

none of which will help parasites in any way. Please read the stickies in this forum.

Please list all the fish that have shared water with the Hippo? Is the YT your only remaining fish? Also, what size DT do you have?

You could probably get by with a 29 or 30 gal QT; but bigger is always better. You will need: tank, heater, thermometer, powerhead and/or HOB powerfilter (I'm a big fan of Aquaclear - the 70 model works well for 29gal QT) for circulation, and PVC elbows for hiding spots. Sometimes you get lucky on craigslist, and find most of what you need there.

You will also need Cupramine, and either a Seachem or Salifert copper test kit. The shrimp/starfish and all other coral/inverts do not need to be treated, and will remain in the 100 gal for the 72 fallow aka fishless period that is required to starve any remaining parasites out of your tank.

Humble & Snorvich thanks for the replies.

I am off to spend more at the LFS.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm sorry if I missed this but was velvet or ich determined?

OP says white spots were first noticed on the Hippo on 4/19, but the fish didn't die until yesterday. So, based solely on that timeline I would assume Ich. IME; most fish with Velvet don't last anywhere near 2 weeks once they've displayed symptoms.

Update:
This morning 6 lined wrasse has gone missing and a neon goby as well.

The coral beauty has not left his sleeping spot in 24 hours.

This is not looking good.

I am now planning the QT purchase as I could not get it yesterday.
UV sterilizer is also one of my next purchases.

A UV sterilizer has little to no effect on ich or other parasites.

Yep..gotcha..thanks Humblefish! It was too late for me to do math;) Velvet wipes out within days

So basically all my fish are going to die.

No solutions other than a hospital tank that I cannot set up in days. Right?

Ich isn't necessarily a fast killer like Velvet. Each fish will have their own tolerance & threshold (but tangs are some of the most susceptible).

This is painful to watch.

My clown and one neon goby now show visible signs.

It looks like every fish is going to pass away.

I will likely be a reef only tank by the end of the week.

I will start setting up my hospital tank for the next few months as I will now quarantine all fish for weeks prior to introduction.

This is frustrating. Beautiful species perishing before my eyes.
