Two Maroon Clowns

I'm going to attempt to introduce a second maroon clownfish in my tank. I already have a 1.5" maroon clown in there now and he seemed interested when I was floating the bag prior to dripping. I am a bit worried they will fight and I'm looking for some advice here.

It has to be possible :) Otherwise we wouldn't have any fish to buy.

So far so good. A little fighting but all calm for the last 15 minutes.

I've read that with the maroon clowns it really helps if there is a giant size difference and also if you make sure the second clown is a male. Just looks for the submission wiggle and see that the fighting doesn't get too dirty. Good luck.

They are at it again, but it doesn't seem that bad. One will "slap" the other in the face with their tail and then fight...then stop for 5 minutes then go at it again.

The fighting now seems to be over. I saw the smaller fish turn on its side and do a little shake and then it retreated to the other side of the tank. The larger one went back to his normal spot and appears to be sleeping. Think it is safe now???

is there a big difference in size? like 1 50% bigger? that's your best bet of trying to pair up. fighting can go for months but it's kinda expected, especially w/ maroons. i'll be going through this in next month or so when i add a smaller 1 to my maroon i have now. i doubt they're done fighting unless 1 is considerably larger, then they each know whos boss.

Yes the original maroon that was already in the tank is at least 50% larger than the other. The larger one won the battle and they are both eating together this a.m. without fighting.

After a full day in the tank together I am seeing the smaller one be submissive to the larger one. When the larger one comes towards it it goes on its side and shakes then they swim together for a long time...sometimes they do seperate but then come back together. They have not had a fight since last night. Does this sound about right?

so far so good. it's not definate yet though, but it very well may be. maroons can be twisted and snap overnight. i bought 2, 1 alittle smaller than other. they both began hosting my RBTA, swimming together, etc, etc. then 1 day bigger 1 kicked other 1 out of RBTA, and began harassing it. finally smaller 1 had to stay on opposite side of tank and eventually after only about 3 weeks started having nipped fins, looked stressed and just went MIA. all u can do is keep your fingers crossed.
