so who has one or had one. i have looked at a few places online and tons of them say the same thing bout them being peaceful and so on....except minimal tank size they all pretty much say different, from 50g all the way up to 100 i have seen....now i know i could keep one from 1" or so till whatever size in the tank and maybe trade him in as he got bigger and sell him....but what are your thoughts on the fish? thanks guys

One thing it's going be hard to find one at 1". And they grow up fast too about 5". You have a 55gal right I wouldn't put any tangs in that small of a tank. They should be kept in a tank 6ft long. You may get away with a small one in a 75 with lil LR open for swimming but not a 55g. Tangs swim for 100's of miles in a day. And they have a big bio load.

This has always confused me. If they swim for hundreds of miles a day, what difference is a 55 gallon going to make over a 75 gallon? Or 300 gallon?

I now have two Tangs in my 105gal, Small Sailfin and Small Yellow Eye Kole Tang and they both seem to be doing just fine after the initial Fight of Who's boss got completed. Ha!
And please No Tang Police...

the main issue is going to be bioload. if you have an effective filtration system in place then it shouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't put a tang in a tank under 36 inches long, but I have seen them (small varieties of bristletooth tangs) in 40 breeders without issue.

the bristletooth ones should be just fine in that tank. they dont get too big. Mario, if you cannot find a two spot, look for a tomini. I loved the one I had.

I said a 75 becuase of the bioloads. When my tang get over 5" long I donate them to a public aquariums. Which my is do for a new relocation. Thanks to the aquarium rest. at oprymills will be open sometime soon. That my two will going next week or 2.Which they had 8 of my tangs and angles. I do it there because I'm still able to stop by and see them anytime. There just down the street for me.

i happen to agree.....though also i have to say if i see a fish not doing well and i can fix it by getting him a bigger better home then i will.....i hate to see any animal suffer, much less something that comes from such an open and free area like the ocean to then be put into a a box.....even if that box is 800 gallons lol....i like the two spot so if i can find a small enough one i will get him and try it.....i like its coloring and such and the fact that it seems like one of the tangs that dont need as much space as others....the bio load like zef said is bout the only thing that bothers me, having said that though,by the time i get him i think i will have replaced the coralife 220 skimmer i have with an octopus NWB110......but he is on my list to get :D thanks guys for all the thoughts and ideas

+ 1 for the Tomini. I think that this is the smallest of the tangs period. They don't get big at all but do swim a lot. even though some say they are peaceful fish I have a relatively aggressive one and I have a friend that has one that is a MEAN little bugger. Once my bi-colored fox-face went into that tank mine chilled out considerably as he was no longer the big fish of the tank. having said that they are great tangs as they constantly graze on the rock and don't requrie a ton of work and stay small.

tomini will be the second behind the two spot and if i cant get onne i like when i do go to get a tang then i'll most probably get a tomini
