Two stars in one...

My friend has a sand sifting star in his 55 reef that has been up for 3 years. He wants to put a linkia in there too. Would the linkia be even more likely to starve with the ss star or do they eat totally different foods? If he can keep them what color linkia is the easiest?

Totally different foods, but the life expectancy on both is pretty grim. I think the SS star preys on all the microfauna in the substrate, while the linkia consumes the "films" that cover the rocks, glass, sand, etc. There are just more horror stories than fairy tales when it comes down to it for both.

No linckia is suitable for a 55, the tank is simply too small to house enough rock for a linckia to survive. I would not expect the ss to survive in a 55 either, it is going to deplete the microfauna faster than it can reproduce. Brittle or serpent stars are better suited for smaller tanks.

I agree. Not a large enough tank. 125 minimum.

Agree with everyones advice, leave them in the reefs were they can thrive and have a better life and not starve too death in our glass reefs.
