Two Wrasse Questions

I just purchased a blue star leopard wrasse and so far it has been doing great. This is the third day I have had it and every night it seems to be settling into my tank more. The first night it didn't eat too much but tonight it ate very well so I think it's doing ok besides some damage on its fin. I don't think it's fin rot and I'm hoping the pic will be sufficient enough to tell. Also my lfs has had a mystery wrasse for about 2 weeks or so and the owner who I know very well is offering to sell it to me for $70. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them.

Here is the new leopard wrasse.

Mystery Wrasse are great fish. They can "sometimes" be aggressive with other wrasse if they are already established in your tank.

Depending on the size of your tank I would not hesitate to add him though, and at $70 your getting a decent deal.

My LFS has (maybe had?) the best looking one I've ever seen for $140. Not big, but vivid lines on its head and great coloration. Their googly eyes and hovering swimming style get me. I've got to have one.

I have both mystery and leopard wrasse in my tank, they get along just fine. The mystery was first then the leopard, but when I added leopard the mystery did take some aggression toward him at first then settle down after a few days. Both great fish.

Depends on tank size and aggressiveness of the mystery wrasse. Both eat copepods. In a mature 435 gallon tank, there should be sufficient. In a relatively new 57 gallon tank, it would be more problematic. However R-nel, your leopard wrasse is new so you have not yet achieved success. A year from now . . .

I actually have a ton of copepods. I have two refugiums set up for my tank. One is in my stand and the other is an hob so my tank is supplied with quite a few pods. I also buy 2k pods every month or so just to make sure.

Well my leopard wrasse just came out tonight and I'm not sure if its recovering or not so I'm hoping for some help with this decision. Here is a pic of it just about 5 min ago. You can see the front part of its fin looks like its growing back but part of it seems to have come off.

Well I thought I would give an update even though its bad news. The leopard wrasse died. I'm not too sure what happened but last night when it came out one of its fins were completely missing. I'm thinking maybe an emerald crab got a hold of it maybe. The mystery wrasse is doing very well though. My flame angel didn't like it too much in the beginning but now they swim around each other all the time with no aggression. Here is a pic of the wrasse, it seems to have colored up a little.
