to my understanding.... Carlos is not claiming his is a leng sy. He calls it the Japanese Cap. I do have a frag and it is quite nice, Leng Sy or not.

As for the exotic reefs Leng Sy, I don't think it is one. It does not have the white polyps the leng sy is supposed to have. That being said, I have no knowledge of the cap other than the pics on the site. Really nice looking though.
 
I need to get a better picture, this one is sort of dark but its the only one I had on my computer. I got this coral from a hobbyist in Germany.

read the whole thread...tyree said himself the polyps are green...id say the polyps are a light green, almost white as i initially thought with my piece..

I'm still waiting for the purple cap to color up, I have a frag of that for you also!

OMG, I have people naming corals after me :eek1:

Just for everyone's info, I got mine from Tracy Gray, which came from Tyree a few years ago. Tracy lost his colony when his tank crashed and I lost the frag I saved for my self during my move. I believe Pineapplehouse have a mini colony growing out of the rocks I sold him.

That is a nice looking Monti. I don't believe I have seen one like that. Very unique polyps. Let me know if you want to trade for my PE. I will travel up there.

Please do not take this the wrong way Carlos, but about 9 months ago I was looking for pruple rims and you said you had a couple types, the Jap. purple edge, and the Leng Sy were mentioned in that email. You were gonna charge me if I remember 60 for the Jap and way more than 100 for the "Leng Sy" cap that you said needed to grow out before fragging. I hope you were not trying to screw me over on that one cuz thats not very cool.
I also recall Graham being pretty excited about getting the "real" Leng Sy from you but maybe he knew it was a "replica"... or was it the real thing
Sorry to call you out in this forum but Im kinda intereseted to know if you really do have a Leng Sy that youve been keeping behind closed doors or if you were just trying to make a quick buck?

Both myself and Graham seemed to have been told at one point (fairly close to the same time) that you did in fact have the real Leng Sy. I dont know if the odds are such but it seemed suspicious to me thats why I had to stick my nose in this god awful thread :) lol jk

Again not trying to get on your bad side but I dont like thinking that theres reefers selling their frags at inflated prices for no apparent reason, your Jap PE is awesome dont get me wrong, but I hope there might be some explaination to the Leng Sy that you claimed to have.
 
Thanks Pierce! I am sure Ken and I will be able to make a connection. Since you lost your frag on the move, dont you think that is a good reason to come back for a visit, around club meeting or a frag swap. To replay the "famous Cali_reef purple rim cap."
 
The white polyps that Dustin's has is really cool. Carlos' Japanese cap also has white polyps or at least it appears to be in my tank.

The "cali_reef cap"! Hmmm...I might have to go pester Jimmy too! Maybe this one will keep the purple rim for me.lol

I know I have a couple of the cali(_reef) torts! :D
 
My PE has white sometimes light green polyps too but I'm not sure if they are the same as Dustin's. Dustin's polyps seem large. Maybe it's the macro shot. Would need to put them side by side.

Spearfish, Since you seem to have them both. How do they compare next to each other? Where did you get Dustin's?

If you put them next to each other do the polyps look the same size?

How long have you had them under your care?

Are the conditions the same for both?

Same water, lighting, current?

By the way, mine produces ridges too. The picture is a bit far but here is one where you can see the ridges forming:

once again the leng sy does not have white poloyps and the nods go way up also this coral forms cups instead of plates grows slow to i would post a pic of mine but i made a mistale and got a piece of the red poloyp danae from them that was infested with the nudies and my cap is recovering from the attack now i am still dipping it in oomed i just hope it recovers soon so i can post a pic and show the difference alex(roab) post yours mine has been verified by steve maybe he can chime in here
