Any one of you guys care to speculate on what's happening to this clam? It came off it's original rock that it was shipped on, so I used one of the Boston Aquafarms discs when I got it into my tank to which it adhered for a time.

Since then, I had to move my tank by relocating all the animals (including the clam) to a holding tank, and it released it's hold on that disk, and I just today noticed this about what I think is the byssal gland. See how the area below the gills is 'gritty' and rather unhealthy looking?

I'd appreciate any diagnosis and recommendations.

the gill look ok, the sand coming through the byssal hole looks alright too. or is there more to it? i have looked in my tank and seen my purple linkia inside my gigas ( or at least an arm or two )

sorry if i'm missing something in the pic but it looks like sand :)
