Uh...was that an earthquake or just another meth lab explosion?

Did anyone else notice the ground start shaking at around 4:40 am? Started to feel a little twitchy then the plates in the kitchen started rattling. My wife felt it too, so I know i wasnt dreaming. No trucks were driving by either...

It scared the S*** out of me. Funny thing is my first thought was is my tank ok. It woke my wife up as her stuff fell off the dresser.
I was down stairs on line at the time and was watching the walls move.

Was layin in bed here and the whole house started shakin. Bed was a rockin and the dresser was movin and creakin.

Wow...we were just lying in bed and the whole house shook, but Champaign is quite a ways from you all. I can't imagine how strong it must have been there from what we felt up here.

Our dog woke me up and the drsser was rattling, in my sleepy state I told the dog to quit rattling the dresser, I was falling back asleep and realized how that made no sense.

Mother in law called and they got each other all excited so now I', up

That was the first one i had ever been awake for, kind of strange. Now Im already in a bad mood for the day because I have been watching My Fox This Morning or whatever it is and it is just media fear mongering and sensationalist crap. They just interviewed a staff member that lived in LA for the big earthquake in the 90's and had her compare the two, while they showed footage of the LA quake damage whike flashing breaking news 5.4 earthquake Mt. Carmel, IL. If you had just tuned in it would look like the 5.4 in Illinois just destroyed LA....earlier he was talking to a prof from SLU and asked him what you should be worried about if you lived on top of a mine....the guy said you shouldnt worry it wasnt big enough to cause any collapses and he hadnt heard of any reason to worry and then the news guy says "Not yet". This is ridiculous.

According to the news stations here some people in this area felt it too. It musn't have been too strong because I slept through it :D

Ya I think the media is taking it to the extreme right now. Well at least KTVI the one I have had on because they stay local. Saw the same thing with the LA pictures. They are scrambling to find bricks in the street down town right now. Personally the dresser handles clanging woke me up. I am glad I was able to experience it and not sleep through it.

If you have time try and fill out the usgs form http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/shake/STORE/Xhwb0418a_08/ciim_form.html

I was awake for the first time to feel it as well, it was strange, I thought possibly tornado at first but looked outide and didn't see anything. I was in the kitchen getting a bottle ready for my 2 month old girl otherwise I would have been sleeping, as soon as it started I ran to check on her to make sure she was okay (she was on the coach in her boppy). My husband came running out of the bedroom asking if I just felt that.

bed shaking woke me up, I assumed it was just my dog scratching herself, but then I turned on the TV and sure enough, earthquake

Holy crap! That thing woke me up last night and I thought I was frickin crazy or something. Kinda cool though...

yea the news just said it was a 5.4 registered in west Salem , IL. My wife tried to wake me up she said it shook the house pretty well for about 20 secs or so. no damage thought.

That's just a normal night at the Mayo house :D

We have cracks in the ceiling/wall joint in 2 bathrooms but the rest of the house seems to be OK.

I still have an old school waterbed (no baffles), I woke to feeling like I was in a washing machine!! My wife usually gets up earlier than I do, and I was thinking, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I looked over at her, and she was still sleeping. In my drowsiness, I thought that must have been a quake, chuckled to myself, and went back to sleep! Salem is about 35 miles from here, luckily, no damage found.
