UK 400ltr SPS

That's undeserved praise from a TOTM winner, but thankyou.

Olly,

You're not giving yourself anywhere near enough credit.

Here's a list of items I can think of that make a tank great:

1) Nice layout and coral placement.
2) Good colors and variation.
3) Corals that weren't just bought and placed, but grown out.
4) Growth formations that look "natural". (Tough to define but you have it.)
5) Nice photography.
6) Dedication and patience.
7) Too me the simpler the better.

You've covered each of these facets in spades. Add a coral or two and maybe a clam, then clean the sand and add little more to cover the front for some pictures and lastly scrape the back wall and you'll have your own TOTM worthy tank. Really

We'll, it's very nice for you to say. I just try and keep things simple and as stable as possible and not tamper too much. I'm trying to focus on colour at the moment, picking up some Acropower as mentioned at the weekend and have been reading up on homemade coral food/paponne on other threads.
Tanks due for a back wall scrape soon, so I'll try and figure out my DSLR and get some more photos up.
And some sump photos for you Mo, but a cracked glass box with a skimmer, heater and some cheato isn't that exciting tbh!

How often do you dose the pro coral elements? Are you using both the K+ and A- elements?

Its called pro coral mineral by Tropic Marin, I only dose in the quantity as per instructions but maybe only once a fortnight or so, just because I don't dose any other trace elements.

Joe, I struggle with the sand staying put really, due to the flow pattern in the tank. Always seems to shift away from the front right corner. Quite annoying really!

That's a fact of life, but if you promise not to tell anyone I'll let you in on a little secret . . . I always clean and smooth my sand before taking pictures of my tank. Truth is I usually have a bare spot on the left side of the tank for the same reason, high flow. I figure it's like airbrushing the wrinkles on a model in a makeup add. May not be "real" but folks seem to prefer the airbrushed look over the "real" deal. :p

Here you are Mo, just for you!

4 module fan, skimmer, cheap light, algae bed and return pump. Simple. Phos reactor not currently running.

So I scraped off the back wall of the tank today to get a better FTS.
Quite pleased with how the tank looks at the moment, still coping with high temperature due to the hot weather over here at the moment but everything seems to be coping so far, due to a decreased photo-period.
Still no Acropower..:sad2:

This is a stunning tank. Growth formations are so natural. When in England are you. I grew up in winchester but moved to the states abouts 12 years ago.

Im sure ive seen this tank somewhere before?!

Looking great as always mate, hard work and dedication defo paying off. Keep up the good work.

Nav

....nice to see some hi-res pics for a change, just waiting for my invite to come and see it in person now :lol2:

beautiful tank!
Excellent placement, fantastic execution and beautiful health… love it.

I'm also very curious to see what the acropower and pappone will do to your system.

totm? not quite.. imo, it's not that your tank isn't nice enough, it's just that in about 6-12 months your tank will be that much more natural looking with the corals more grown in..
Gonna be crazy, crazy!!!
Looking forward to watching it grow..

I couldn't agree with you more, it still looks like I could have bought the corals as colonies all at the same time and just stuck them to the rock and took a picture. Needs way more growing in to make it look natural, that for me is the best thing about the more mature tanks.
And I'd never get TOTM with Aiptasia in the tank...:(

So, got this little guy yesterday. The chainlink didn't seem too impressed with his new tank mate, but it seems to have calmed down now.

Quick update. All new Pacific Sun lamps went into the fixture at the weekend, currently 5 crystal blue, 2 spectra +, and 1 pigment tube. I may still change one tube for a shallow water as it maybe overall be a touch too blue. But all in all very pleased.

Ahhhh . . . the purple coral of death!!!!! Run away, run away!!!! Just kidding sort of, but does that monti looking coral on the front right lower edge look like this:

LookDownA.jpg

If so I personally recommend you NOT put that coral in your tank as someday it will cover every inch and kill all your other corals. It grows at a rate logarithmically faster than any other coral and simply surrounds them and suffocates them to death, and it is almost impossible to remove as tiny pieces seem to survive even if you cover the tiny piece entirely with puddy.

Anyways, just one guys thought :D

Looking great otherwise!
