Ulcer or something on a tang

hi all

I wondered if anybody could help me.

I recently bought a very rare tank which had a red mark (about 0.5" round above it's eye, the affected area was also 'depressed' as if something was eating into the fish.

Two weeks later its not getting much better, although the fish is eating and swimming around.

I've put it in a sump, where there are no other fish to annoy it, (the sumps about 40 gallons has loads of algae etc, and is part of am 800 gallon system) All other fish are fine, and reiterate the problem started before I picked it up, and therefore unlikely to be a water issue.

What do you think it might be ?

A friend of mine gace me something called Aquaflavin.

I took the fish out today and after photographing for this post, and dabbed some of the Aquaflavin onto the 'sore'

Could anybody recommend anything or perhaps a better treatment, or antibiotic ?

Regards

It could be an injury of sorts. A new tank and unfamiliar 'obstacles.' It could be an attack.

I'd put the fish in a hospital tank, treat with antibiotics and improve its diet to optimum.

I would choose NITROFURAZONE (in the product, Furan-2). It is bactericidal for many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria causing disease in marine fishes.

For foods and additives to the fish's diet, I'd follow this recommendation:

I cant really help with the diagnosis Martin but have linked to your pics.
