I was hoping to explain my tanks condition and see if it is about to support this Corocea Clam on MarineDepot.

  • 55g Tank with ~15g sump (Set-up June 24th, 2012)
  • Clownfish x 1
  • Purple Firefish x 1
  • Bristletooth Tang x 1
  • Banggai Cardinals x 2 (Currently in QT)
  • Turbo Snail x 1
  • A few Nassarious and Cerith Snails
  • Cleaner Shrimp x 1

I also have some coral that has been doing well. I have a Hammer coral, Frogspawn, Acans, Yellow Tort, Orange Pavona, Acropora, Purple Stylophora and one other SPS I can't identify. They have been in the system for as long as last August and all seem to be doing just fine.

Water Parameters (Last Tested April 6):

  • Temperature = 80.1 degrees
  • Nitrates = 0ppm
  • pH = 8.12
  • Alkalinity = 7.67dKh
  • Calcium = 395ppm
  • Magnesium = 1,280ppm

My tank has a 4 x T5 HO (54w) fixture that contains two (2) actinics, one Coral (purple 420/460nm) and one 10k. I also have 2 x MP10wES and an Apex controller to run the show.

I'm assuming I'll need to bring up my Calcium a little and keep an eye on that more closely, but my parameters / equipment / etc should be able to support a clam, right?

I agree with not enough light. Lose the actinics and maybe go with ATI Blue Plus bulbs and a daylight bulb. Much more par, and still get a little blue.

Croceas (in general) will test the capabilities of your lighting. I've never had one that was ever stressed from too much light...and I overdrive 400 watt Radiums.

Lights should be fine as long as you are running them for 12 hours/a day.
Place your clam as high as you can in your tank.

I would replace the actinics for blue plus as well. You can get some moonlight LEDs for real cheap to use for actinics. You only need a few of them to light a tank efficiently

we have a couple under 2 day 2 actinic t5s at the store. they have been doing fine. however they are maybe 6 inches below the light lol

All clams need about the same amount of light, alot. Maximas need a tad bit more if anything but will do just fine next to squamies and croceas.
