Ultra red food and yellow tangs

Just received my New Life Spectrum "Ultra Red" food. Always been a fan of their foods. Noticed it says on the label "may cause a shift to orange coloration in yellow fish". Yikes. Anyone been using this food for awhile with yellow tangs? Just don't want mine to turn tangerine

Is this the only food your feeding? If the tang has a variety you should be fine... On the other hand I think it would be cool to see a all orange tang. Can't be healthy though

I feed the various nori from Sprung every morn,spectrum pellets lunch, pe mysis or roggers in evening. I emailed company but prob won't get an answer until Mon when they're open.

Then there is no way the tang will change colors, if that's all you were really feeding then it would be a concern

I've been feeding the new nls red formula to my yellow belly hippos and chrysopterus clown for 2 months with no visible color change. I love the nls foods and both my salt and freshwater fish do great on it but I won't be spending the extra cash on it again. I've been feeding it exclusively for dry with pe mysis for frozen.

There was an anecdote related to the NLS UltraRed pellets, (which i also use but not on yellow fish) that stated that a tank of yellow tangs was fed the UltraRed heavily and they did develop an orange tint, and the clear spaces between fin rays on almost all of the fins had turned red too. Ill try to find a link, however it may be on the Biggest Reefing Blog on the Internet.

Ive been feeding Helfrichi firefish, earlei and rhomboid fairy wrasse, and multifasciata and venustus Angelfish the ultraRed. The reds, pinks and purples in all of the fish have become super bold. I really like the subtle changes that it creates in the multicolored fish. The helfrichi firefish also have changed from behind their yellow face to mid-body which is somewhere between pink and purple.

For the Yellow tang to really change colors, you would have to feed it A LOT of the UltraRed, for a pretty long length of time, and almost exclusively.

I cant post a link being that its on the "Blog that shall not be name" but here's what NLS said in that article.

"We asked New Life Spectrum about the effects of feeding Ultra Red to fish with other warm toned colors like orange and yellow but we were assured that the new food really only targeted the red colors like those in flame angelfish and many species of wrasses and clownfish.
In one anecdote we were told of their testing of Ultra Red with a common yellow tang and while the yellow coloration was practically unaffected, the Zebrasoma flavescens did develop a very thin red edging to the soft parts of the dorsal fins but this phenomenon disappeared when feeding of Ultra Red was suspended."

Wow interesting. Thanks griseum. I have my first ever fairy and two flasher wrasse in quarantine rt now, and had heard about ultra from a couple other wrasse aficionados. As with most everything in life I'll use it -- in moderation
