Ultra Red Slime ???

Had the same problem with cyan bacteria. I just kept vacumming as much as i could out. Read somewhere the lack of water flow in that area helps it grow. I have to Koralia #2 powerhead and pointed them in the 2 areas i was having a problem and mine is gone...Im sure it helped that there are no fish in it right now so really no feedings. Good luck

Darned Capn that tank looks nice. I think you took a picture of it when it was pristine and post it when you need a goos pic of it!!! LOL ! I sound like your wife Is this good or bad ? Hey I'm home was no load today. I'm missing Toronto like i would miss my Cyno!

Cheato is a macro algae. As with any algae it adsorbs nitrates and phosphates as it grows. This diminishes the nitrates and phosphates available in the system for nuisance algae and cyano.

However you must harvest it(take some out each week) or when it dies it releases the phosphates and nitrates back in your tank.

Cheato is purchased at just about every lfs---if not find someone close by to you and they will probably give you some.
I'm sure if you ever drop by my place I can give you more then enough to get you started.

Most reefers set up the cheato in a refugium but you can use the soap dishes in your display tank as I posted above. This keeps it out of the way of power heads and the fish can't really get at it that much.
A simple 25 watt or so energy saver bulb is all the light you need to grow it.

sounds simple I don't know anyone around here with a marine set up . Thats why so many ?'s out of me. By the way lights out on tank will turn back on when I get back see what this does .may be 4 days .

the cyano will be reduced but will reappear since you have not found out where or how nitrates and phosphates are being imported into your tank:(

Didn't read all of the posts in here but I will just say I used ultra red slime and it destroyed all the cyano overnight.

Capn : I test and find no phosphate in tank nor have I ever tested pos for nitrate.I find it very difficult to find a source for something that tests 0 . I can not test to see if something is working. I changed everything flow cleaned canister . The littlefeed can't be it. Well lets see if changing the flow direction lights out water change and cleaning rock best i could makes any difference.

Capn:Still home Went to refugieum site your set up lost me also I see you have a lot more time to do this hobby than most. Well I hope to get things under contole here . Will look at it after a few days with power heads pointed in different directions ect.

That result is not unusual--in alot of cases the cyano and nuisance algae is consuming them as fast as they are being imported into the tank so you get zero readings

it is a very simple concept here---if you have cyano or nuisance algae then you have nitrates and or phosphates--other wise no fuel and the truck doesn't move;)

that's why I suggested the soap dishes in the tank---basically that is a refugium in your tank for a buck:eek2:

A refugium is simply a container to keep chaeto in and raise copopods where they are protected from predators and can be introduced to the tank slowly
This is what I started with:
a plastic tote, some reef rubble and a light from home depot--40 dollars in total

which grew to this in less than two months

only later when the amount of fish increased in my tank did I add the second fuge which was to be a remote deep sand bed.
Deep sand beds are excellent nitrate reducers as chaeto algae is an excellent reducers of both nitrates and phosphates
