4 thermometers. All different. What would you go with as the correct temperature of my tank?

I would guess that a mercury thermometer would be more accurate. You might try comparing to one of those. I have 2 like the top ones in your picture. Haven't thought to check for accuracy.

if it were salinity, it would be a concern: but it could even be due to whether a powerhead is blowing on it.

yea I wouldn't be too concerned. Interesting to see the variance though. Doubt those probes could take it but one way to confirm would be to find your elevation above sea level, then boil a pot of water. It boils at 212 F, reduce by 1 degree for each 500 ft above sea level. Would probably melt those probes though.

I think precision (consistency) is more important that absolute accuracy - as long as it's not off by a major amount. Remember that most of the equipment we use is hobby grade not industrial grade (like a Ranco, for example).

The fish and corals won't care. Any of them are close enough.

That's funny. Found same thing. Two of those alcohol types disagreed by 0.8 while the cheap digital sat in the middle. Consistency. Being constantly wrong in this hobby makes it thought provoking.
