Uncle Bill's

I don't know about puppy mills and do not want to continue a debate about puppies on a fish form but...seems a little hypocritical to hear someone that supports an industry that takes animals from the wild and place them in 100 gallons of water without a 2nd thought. If your conscious is bothering you it might be time to wheel your equipment to the curb with a for sale CHEEP sign on it. I hear stamp collecting is pretty fun.
 
I still have not heard yet when the one up here is going to open. If someone down there could find out that would be great. I also heard that they have a connection or a family member in Chicago that brings in around 80% of the LPS to the midwest. Any know about that one.
 
My conscience is actually quite clear. The reason is because I research the animals I intend to keep. I do not keep fish that need 100 gallons in a 32 gallon tank. My animals are all healthy and happy. Just ask them :) Also the majority of the animals that I keep haven't been taken from the wild. They are either tank raised or are aqua cultured corals. So yes my conscience is clear. I doubt I will wheel any of my equipment out to the curb with a cheap sign on it. No offense to the stamp collectors.

Regardless, this thread was originally asking opinions of the store. Not everybody is going to give the store a good rating. I was simply offering an opinion as to why I do not shop there.

I do not work for UB. I just frequent the store and have purchased puppys and wet pets there. I do not expect everybody to give a good rating, even I have had issues in the past. They have made good in every instance. The puppy mill stories are based on half truths and 10% fact. I'm done ranting...
Fireworm- I talked to the manager over the weekend and she said the store is scheduled to open the beginning of Feb. It will be worth a look.
 
anyways... uncle bills in fishers and greenwood have very nice fish rooms from my experience and some very knowledgeable guys. aks for these guys

I have mixed feelings about Uncle Bill's... I've shopped there a few times over the past 5 years or so, and unfortunately, I haven't had much luck with anything that I bought there. Recently, I purchased a bird's nest coral from them, and when I placed it in my tank, it immediately started shedding polyps, and was dead within 12 hours. I contacted the store, (the one on 38th) and the store manager contacted me back the next morning. I can't remember his name for the life of me, but he was a very personable guy, and he quickly offered to replace the coral or refund my money. I went to the store the next day, with the coral, and the guy (I'm guessing an assistant manager or something, his name was josh I believe) swapped out the dead coral for store credit... (which I applied towards a new powerhead, since I've never had luck with corals purchased from this store) So... From my experiences, Uncle Bill's have decent prices, but I've never had luck with ANY specimens from their stores, whether they be corals, fish, inverts, whatever... But they definately stand behind what they sell, and they did treat me well when I had problems with something that I purchased from them, despite their posted guarantee, or lack thereof on saltwater specimens. I would recommend them for fish and dry-goods, but for corals and inverts, I would probably go else-where.
 
I will be very interested to see how they do in town up here. There are a couple stores that I am sure they will beat out easy enough, but the one main salt shop in town will be hard to beat him. That shop has very high customer loyality.
 
I go to the UBs on the southside and have never had coral problems. Their ORA pieces are priced at 35 dollars, that is the standard price for acro frags. but most of the fish i have got for there have died withing 30 days.
 
Well that is a good price on the ORA depending on what it is. Most of ours up here are right around that price. The fish dieing within 30 days sucks. I would be ****ed. The first time, ok, second time maybe, third time never again.
 
I worked at the Castleton store years ago. I go between Washington street and Fishers for my fish stuff. Most people know me there and take good care of me, but have had issues with newbies. Just do your research before you go in. Don't let them talk you into anything you aren't sure about.
I can't wait to hear about the new one.

 
If anyone goes into them on a regualar basis, can they have someone who is going to be running the store up here get ahold of me. I want to see if they are willing to work with the club or not.
 
Any more word from Uncle Bills on what we can expect in the shop up here? And does anyone know who is going to run the shop or the fish room? I would like to talk to them if at all possible
