Under gravel filter.

I have been dealing with a detritus issue in my bare bottom brood tanks. Today I was at petco and saw an undergravel filter that would fit my tank for 12 bux. Hey for 12 bux I'll try it. I installed it and the concept is pretty cool. The tray sits on the bottom of the tank and the water moves below it. Seems like it may work out. One of the standpipes I have directly shooting in the overflow. The other is in the middle and shoots at the overflow. Hopefully it will keep it suspended long enough to get sucked down the overflow.

Feel free to tell me this idea sucks :)

In case this doesnt work out, I can install a powerhead in each tank and aim it at the bottom. What type is recommended for a 20 Long. Just powerful enough to keep that crap suspended but weak enough to not have the fish blow around in an empty tank.

No not yet... There are 4 in that tank. They seem to be pairing up though. The other two are on the other side of the tank. I will seperate them when Im sure.

Could you add a powerhead to the standpipes so that instead of water and detritus being suck down into the filter it would create a gentle upwelling pushing the detrius up into one of the overflows? Never tried it or know if it would even work?
