I just got back from a trip to Puerto Rico (beatiful, lots of fish and sights while I was snorkling ,sp.,). Anyways, I purchased a basic underwater camera, 35 mm, for $10. After having so mush fun on the beach and in the water with this camera, I was convinced that I needed to get a real underwater camera. I haven't even developed the film yet!!! Anyways, anyone have any suggestions on a good digital camera that I could get at a reasonable price?? Websites that may have them? Do I nessecarily, sp., need a case so to speak or do they have ones that i can just take in the water and get wet? Thank you in advance.

I am selling a Nikon MotorMArine setup if your interested.
Easy to use and takes great shot......not digital, though
Uses 35mm

Forget the camera, there are plenty but without a good strobe the pixs tend to be washed out. I know, i've lived through it.

What are you going to be doing? Snorkeling or diving and where...what depth?

You will probably be disappointed with you 35mm pics...they will be washed out and grainy.

However if you are just planning on snorkeling in clear water in the future there are quite a few digitals out there w/underwater cases that wont break the bank and are easy to use with decent results. I like digital because after I get out of the water I can go back thru and immediately erase and bad pics. You can also get large memory cards and only print off the pics you want....just my .02.....anyway I used an Olympus D-580 I bought off ebay and an olympus underwater housing I got from Adromona...whole setup under $200. I snorkeled in the BVI's and was very happy with hte pics.....Good Luck!

sounds just like what I want. I just want TO snorkel now but in the future I would like to eventually go diving. How hard is it to find the housing??? I currently have two Olympus digital cameras and wouldn't mind making one of them my underwater camera.

which olympus digitals do u have? if you go to olympus.com you can see what housings they have for what cameras. It seems tho that the housings are only in production for a limited number of time tho. I wanted one for my olympus 740 but it was discontinued and very difficult to find. The housings are very easy to use and I was very happy w the pics it took.

Heres some pics I took in the BVI's: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=816264

To be honest, I am not sure of the model. I know that they are both at least a year old, one is probably two or three years old.

I tried to look at your pics in the other link byt i didn't see any in the post????

I will definately look into the housings though, I think that this would be the most economical way of haveing an underwater digital camera. thanks
