Underwater Digital Video

I just ordered the Ikelite JVC Picsio GC-FM1 Compact Video package from LeisurePro for our trip to the Caymans in 2 weeks. :)

This unit shoots 1080p 30fps video and 8mp stills. I also bought a PNY 16gb SDHC card so I can store up to 2.75 hours of hi-def video. The unit is rated to 200 feet.

If all goes well this next week in regards to any "extra" money coming in, I'm hoping to be able to buy the Pro-V8 LED Video Lite and mounting brackets in time for our trip. I'll overnight those if I have to!

Very cool little device - small, unobtrusive, and powerful. You'll have to give a full review (with sample clips) so we can see if the rest of us need to go get one of these... :D

I was planning to order a system like yours (but the Nikon version), then decided to examine the specs on this unit a bit more closely since I've heard a lot of chatter about it and was amazed to see that it films in HD.

I get HD video and 8mp stills..? SOLD! :D

Wow, post lots of video and photos when you return. I am planning a trip to Grand Cayman and love looking at anything underwater (well almost anything :spin2:).

What was the damage if you don't mind me asking? Looking in to getting something like that myself.
It was only $399 at LeisurePro and included free shipping, but I bumped it to 2 day shipping since ground from NY takes forever and I wanted to have ample time to figure everything out. The external video light and bracket will cost another $260 or so, but will increase the capabilities quite a bit. Ultimately, I would love to have a pair of the lights with one on either side.

My wife has been wanting to get a small digital video camera anyway for our motorcycle trips, so this will serve double duty. In fact now she'll even be able to shoot video while we're riding in a downpour, since we seem to do that a lot! :D

That seems like a pretty good price considering how much the Ikelite cases cost. Also, I was very impressed with the video on your link. I'm anxious to see the videos from your upcoming trip.

Seeing as how YOU closed the door between our rooms so that Anton and I were unable to critiqe you and Kym, you don't have many!!! ;)

Well you did say "dive gear", so in that regard a snorkel was clearly more appropriate than the sword fight! :D

BTW: I just sold another website a few minutes ago to a client that I last worked for in 2004 when I did a few updates, and before that was like 1997... The minute that I receive his payment via PayPal, I'll be ordereing the external video light and mount for this camera.

The light is basically the same as the C8 LED light cannon that I have. It's the light that flooded and was replaced.
