Undrilled tank closed loop

Has anyone else tried the method Melev used for making a closed loop in an undrilled tank using an external SCWD and powerhead?

(http://www.melevsreef.com/node/691 for reference)

I've got a 36 gallon bow front that I'm just setting up (still cycling) and just a Koralia 600 for flow at the moment. I know next-yearish I'd like to get a RBTA and sooner hopefully a few Zoas and LPS, so I'm setting up accordingly. It looks to me like Melev's closed loop would be a little more anemone friendly than the koralias and probably look nicer. I'm just curious if anyone else has given it a shot and how it worked out for them. (In case you are wondering, I haven't drilled the tank because the stand doesn't have any room for a sump, unless I stuck it under the floor, which I've also considered). If I got a 0-10V controllable powerhead I could probably use my Apex to produce adjustable/variable intensity with the SCWD providing alternating direction.. at least that's how it seems in my scheming brain.

thoughts?

I have a dart closed loop on my 300g that goes over the top like that.

Works wonderfully and I dont have to worry about bulk heads leaking. Just remember to have removable caps at the tops where it goes over the edge so you can drain it without creating a siphon when you need to work on it.

Personally Im not a big fan of SCWD's. They tend to clog to much for my liking. Look into a oceans motions squirt and some eductors.
