Unexpected Baby Bangaii

Humu Humu

lost in the pelagic zone
I'm just a little excited right now. I was moving some live rock out of my sump to place into another tank, and just by chance looked into the sump with some earnest. There I saw a baby Bangaii Cardinal! I have a pair in the DT, but was totally caught off guard. It had to make it through the overflows, past the Skimmer! (for gods sakes), and into the refuge part of the sump. He's about an inch from top to bottom. Here's to not having a filter sock!

I'll try and post a pic. Bad, taken from my cell phone, but you can get the idea.

Ace,

I know, I just read up on the mouthbrooding habits of this fish. I never expected that I had a mated pair, let alone one made it. I checked the sump and have only one survivor.

It says they usually release about 28 fry, so I wonder if my fish considered them a snack. I have tangs, and a wrasse. Thinking it was the wrasse, but one never knows.
Still, I'm quite happy and will do my best to raise him/her all the way to adult-fish-hood.
