Unhappy Pistol Shrimp?

I've had a Watchman Goby and Pistol shrimp (paired) in my tank for a couple of months now and they have created a nice home with a couple of tunnels around a rock in the main display area.
Just recently the shrimp has been found in my overflow again,, he has done this twice in the past two days and three times since i had him. I have also recently installed new overflow teeth so its not easy to get in there.

Is there a reason why he would be trying to get in there? Is he unhappy or just stupid?

not sure if it is relevant but I do have a gyre xf150 in the tank so there is a strong flow of water at the surface which pushes towards the corner weir.

Its a pain in the *** to get him out each time so i really want to know if there is a reason for him doing this?

Have you tested your water for any major parameter swings in the last few days? My pistol rarely leaves his home, let alone swims in the water column to get caught in the overflow...

Strange how it just started after a few months which is what leads me to believe something has changed in your water chemistry that is upsetting him. Are any corals acting differently?

All parameters are consistent.
All Corals look fine.
There have been no new additions to the tank.

I did my weekly water change on Sat as usual and cleaned some of the gravel near his rock but not enough to spook him.

Could he have fallen out with the Watchman?

Well he is a really really unhappy shrimp now as i managed to rip off his small pincer when catching him in the net.

Is there any chance that will grow back or are his days numbered?

I have a coral banded shrimp who has lost his arm like 5 times and he is fine.

Stray voltage is the first thing that popped into my mind. Shrimp are very sensitive to it. Have you added any new equipment lately? A heater or pump maybe? You might check over all of your equipment and make sure that everything is intact. :bigeyes:

Won't be a problem, in my last tank my pistol would sometimes wind up losing BOTH pincers (during molt) and then the next molt they would be back (smaller at first, then the following molt back to normal).

I agree check for stray voltage. Has he tried to escape yet again?

I cant see that being the cause as i have a earth probe in the tank.
I also have some peppermint shrimps that have been in there for a year now.

The guy is now back in his original home with the watchman so ill see how it goes.
