unidentified "creature"

hi, i'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. My tank has been running for about 2 years, about six months ago i started seeing these things in the sump and display growing out of the rocks and sand. they are translucent and resemble bean sprouts. does anyone happen to know what these might be?

Without pictures it is going to be pretty hard to get a proper identification.
My guess from the description are just tube worms growing out of the sand, they are harmless.
