So I have a big problem where all of my fish hide so good I rarely get to see them. If I sit a good distance from the tank I can watch them eat as the auto feeder goes off. Yet, other than that it's rare I see them at all. I know they are all alive, well fed and healthy though. The problem is my tank is an area of the house that doesn't get much foot traffic and to make matters worse, I often leave on business trips through the week. In fact, in a given month I may only be home 10 days, rarely consecutively either. I have no problems keeping tank clean or feeding or anything, it's just basically that the fish rarely see people, and when they do they dart behind the rocks. I don't know what to do. Anyone have any experience with this or suggestions??
I have a 125 gallon tank 4x2x2 and the fish were never skiddish before I started traveling so much and moved houses, thus moving the tank to a different area.... I have a fox face, six line wrasse, sailfin tang, coral beauty, (and 2 others that I'm blanking on right now) what do I do??

Get mannequins with your face and put them around the tank

Yea good one haha.... i was already tossing around the crazy idea of putting a life size cardboard cut out on a roomba and having it zoom along as I'm gone

Feed them frozen food yourself while you are at home. The fish will get to know you and remember you - many have quite good memory and will recognize you even after a month.

My fish back in Germany knew me and were always out when I was in the room. If anybody else they did not knew entered, they would go into hiding.

Haha that'll work too. I agree with above listed posts, when you're home try to hand feed them as much as possible.

Whenever I am home, I feed them twice a day frozen food. After defrosting it, I put hand in the top of tank and slowly swish it around so it all breaks apart and goes into tank. They barely even come out for the food unless a walk away from the tank a little bit, then they feel safe and come out.... also though, I would like them to be out all the time for everyone, guests included. Which they used to do, It was fine until I moved and started more work trips

You could try adding a pair of clownfish. Clownfish will always be out and about making the other fish feel safe. I've had good experiences with using clownfish to make the other fish feel more secure.

Just an idea, cutting back on food a little may create a little competition, which may get the fish out to get the food a little better. I have about fifteen fish in my tank and I only feed small portions at a time.. Just enough where everyone gets a share. It makes my fish come out like crazy, especially during feeding time cause they're always looking for food. To those ready to attack I'm not starving my fish and they're all healthy, I'm just not throwing in handfuls of food but rather feed smaller portions two to three times a day. Granted my wife and I hand feed them every day, it's to the point My blue tang bites my fingers (which scares the crap outta me every time) whenever I feed her.
