is it reef safe and what is it good for?

Yep.. I agree... it's a Stomatella varia snail. They're reef safe, great algae grazers, they reproduce quickly and often, and, as an added bonus, when they release eggs/sperm its a great snack for your tank.

You're lucky to have them, some people wish they could buy them.
