ok I was going to start a which trigger is known to be safe in the reef tank. But someone has already started that thread , my question is which trigger have you had go crazy on your tank inhabitants and eaten your fish and coral? Which fish should I clearly star away from? horror stories please.

Undulated triggers can bee monsters and are, by some, considered the most aggressive fish in the ocean. Queen triggers can be pretty nasty too. Clown triggers as well. For reefs these three would be def NO NO's.

I think you would be better off just listing all triggers and then lining out the handful or so that ARE reef safe.

I started w/ 1 Niger. He was well behaved. I later added a sargassum. He was well behaved. I then added a pair of blue throats. They were docile. Finally, I saw a beautiful larger Niger that had red in his body. I added him and my other nigers began declining to where the blue throats died, then the sargassum. Now did the larger Niger cause their demise? I don't have proof, but I removed the remaining Nigers nonetheless. So in retro, I'd have a sargssum and a blue throat again.

Complete tank wipeouts:
Undulated
Clown (usually after years of "peaceful behavior"); I've seen several of these obliterate everything that moves and most things that don't overnight.
Queen
Blueline
Titan

Any fish and/or lots of corals:
Several Rhinecanthus triggers (picasso, huma, rectangulated, etc)
Niger

Occasionally taking out fish:
Xanthichthys triggers.
