unusual growth

I have a staghorn type of Acropora (unsure of the species), that I've accidentally "fragged" many time when cleaning the glass in my tank. I have occasionally donated some frags or sold them, or whatever, but some I put in the little nooks and crannies that look bare. One such frag I put in a spot has exhibited very unusual growth. This spot has no atypical water flow, lighting, or any other differentiating factors, but the coral seems to be growing downward. It is very strange, because it started growing upwards, but then just diverted down.

Has anybody had anything like this occur? What do you think is the cause?

Obviously, I don't care, the coral is healthy, and alcutually is kinda differnt, but I was curious to see if anyone has any thoughts.

It is usually flow that determines growth pattern. My guess would be that the flow swirls downward where you have it growing. I have a Soli doing the same thing.

I would agree with kirstenk. I have a couple corals that are doing that exact same thing. :)
