up-date on the Coralife Ca+ reactor problems

good news!, the latest round of suggestions seem to have done the trick.

For those of you playing along at home: The coralife originally came with a siphon draw system that proved very problematic for me.

Round one had me add a maxi jet 400 and a control valve on the input side of the reactor. Pressure varied too much to maintain steady trustable flow.

Round two had the control valve on the output side and using the reactor body to stabilize the pressure from the pump.
This is working much better. I have yet to need to adjust the valve after orginally setting it. I has only been a few hours but I am very pleased with what I have seen so far.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help

David

P.S. I can not honestly recommend this product to anyone. Getting one on the cheap or in my case given to my class by a well intending friend of the program means that you are likely to have to do some modifications. I have had the pleasure of seeing Geo reactors in action at a couple different keepers' homes and there just is no comparing. Clearly this is worth the extra coin for ease of use and durable construction.

You should consider getting approval from your school board and then you should have a fund raiser so your class can buy a geo reactor with real controller and solinoid and media...soup to nuts.

I'd send in my $10 towards it. You could do a raffle with frags of your class tanks corals as the prizes.

If for example 75 folks bought raffle tickets you'd have your reactor for your kids and 10 or so folks would win some frags for next to nothing. You'd also probably need to approach the clubs within the region you purposed such a thing to get behind your class project/educational endeavor. I recall hearing that some clubs have support for or promotion of education in the hobby in their bylaws. Besides the tax reason they do that, this is probably under that classification.

Anyway, not my place just an idea I felt like sharing.

Another case where cheaper is not better. Its just Cheaper!

Glad you got a handle on it Dave.

the frag raffle is a nice idea, thanks! Its so hard to raise funds without your hand out.

Joe, you are exactly right about that! I have made the cheap mistake more than once in trying to get the most for our funds but it has nearly always backfired.

In any event hopefully this will last a while for me and not give too many head aches
