December 8th

Let's see if we can't work something out!

It looks like October, February, April, May, and July are months where the third Friday and third Saturday of the month are the same weekend. This could be a big saving when the speaker is out of driving range and has to fly. Arrangements could be made to fly the speaker in to Cleveland for the Friday night presentation and then the next day drive him to PA for the Pittsburgh meeting and bring him back to Cleveland to catch his/her return flight without the complication$ of a 3-way flight.

It might not save much cost for a driving speaker but if the speaker has different presentations, it might set up some car pooling possibilities for club members to attend each other's meetings that weekend and hear both topics.

There are definately 2-3 of those I would make the drive for.

Also, Youngstown is about 1/2 way and large enough to find a room big enough for a joint venture.

Dan if you look closely the only one that we could use is the may meeting and we have october booked, there april meeting is TBA and feb is Reefnest . Im pretty sure you know that we know about splitting costs for speakers right? I'll have to get ahold of Steven about that meeting and get with the other board members to see if thats the route we want to go for that month.

Erik, congratulations on being the new program chairman. It's great to hear that you are beginning to fill up the 2006-7 schedule.

Since April is TBA that means it would be a perfect opportunity to look into jointly choosing a speaker, perhaps more costly than one club could justify bringing in alone. Before writing it off, you - not me - should check closely. Something neat might work out, or maybe not. It is worth trying. I am just coming up with ideas and possibilities. It is not my place to look closely at the details unless I am told to arrange a particular month's program. Anyone looking closely is going to be interacting with others to get the details, and unless that task is delegated, it still belongs to the program chairman. In this thread you are getting ideas and suggestions. I am not making the call whether Reefnest might have some way of being a shared program. There might be an opportunity to do something, maybe simple, maybe great. http://www.reefnest.com/history/index.html
After all, the first MACNA came out of the MAST president's simple invitation to C-SEA members to attend a MAST meeting as the destination for our annual C-SEA field trip which certainly didn't fit the mold of past trips to public aquariums. It was my job to plan that years field trip and I didn't kick the idea out of bed for being crackers or short on details.

One of the biggest reasons offered for changing the monthly C-SEA meeting date from third Thursdays to third Fridays was to increase the number of times sharing opportunities between us, PMASI, and MASM would occur. As to when we last demonstrated that we knew about the possibility of sharing costs, either with the nearby marine clubs or even closer freshwater aquarium clubs, when was the most recent time we did this? The last one I recall was when I drove the speaker to his hotel after the meeting and then drove him to Detroit the next morning. After the meeting date was changed to make this sharing easier, it seems like it has turned out to be carried through less often. Maybe it just isn't mentioned anymore and members don't realise it happens.

The last time we shared a speaker was Spring 2006 when Eric Borenemen did a presentation for the club and then went to Pittsburgh for a Saturday presentation IIRC.

Thanks John! Ask the secretary and find out! Any details yet on the 300 gallon tank? Does it have anything to do with that 300 gallon octagon tank from the Christmas raffle one year?

Nope different tank.
That is great news. Not that the old tank donated wasn't in great shape or well done, but it was homemade and used. All glass or acrylic? Dimensions? Photos?

different thread for that stuff
Can't find it. Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms. It would be a great idea to start one if the old thread is buried or nonexistent.

Your screwing up his thread Dan. This is about pittsburg!

Steve started this off and it was about sharing speaker costs between C-SEA and Pittsburgh. Again, I'm all for moving the 300 gallon tank to its thread, definitely a tangent. Steve said, "We have talked before about trying to share some speakers and their associated costs. Here is what we have planned so far:..... Let's see if we can't work something out!"

So let's see if we can't work something out and don't be so defensive. You have inherited a post which needs a lot of redevelopment to get back to what it once was.

ugh Dan just plain Ugh
Well I hope you come around to my point of view. It would be nice to get more people back to the positive and upbeat side of realism. Cooperation and friendliness are still good for hobby organizations.

I'm interested in a few fo the meetings as well.

What time are they held? (Maybe I missed it!)
Our meetings are at 6:00 pm at the Radisson Inn in Monroeville. That is about 1 mile from the PA Turnpike exit in Monroeville heading west on business Route 22.

Dan, I'll get measurements and pics of the 300gal this week as it is stored here. Separate post will be made!!!!! So, sit tight. :)
