Update on Bay Area stores

Hi Everyone,

I've been out of the hobby for awhile now and want to start up a tank again. What stores in the Bay Area are good to go to nowadays?

Tropical Paradise? Aquarium Concepts? Atlantis? Great Bay?

Any recommendations/updates?

Thanks!

great bay just closed own, i think they have been bought by new owner who is renovating and opening up another aquarium shop with focus on saltwater/reef soon. check out new alameda aquatics in alameda, lucky goldfish in oakland, octopus garden in berkeley if you are around this area..

I thought AC was owening a second location, not relocating

That might be true, but when I was there and I asked one of the worker there (forgot the name), they are not sure what they gonna do with Hayward location. Actually according to him, they will bring some of the tanks to new location as well.

Where is Atlantis moving to and when?

I also heard, from the grapevine, that the new lfs in Duboce street, san francisco, will be opening soon - with in weeks. Of course it's only what I heard.

What's up dude!! Come over to the dark side and ditch the lps!! Go sps!!!!:)

 Good one, Sang! Can't see people doing that anytime soon. LPS is easy to care for, grows like weeds, and can be found by the truckload:p

You don't know the POWER of the dark side:strooper:

Found by the truckload, now I definitly beg to differ on that one. One just needs to look at CITES quotas to know that's not the truth ;) The largest recent drop in CITES quotas, were Euphylias. IMO very soon, you won't be able to buy any wild euphylias. Can't in EU all ready, banned!

I was able to drop by Great Bay Aquarium this weekend and Connie's Tropical.

The new owner have redone the whole place and has just re-opened back up, the place looks really nice and clean. They didn't really have that much stock in althought they did get a shipment of Hawaii fish in including a Helfrich’s Firefish for $149 which i thought was reasonable from the last time I remembered on how much these things go for.

Maximus...no way, not going to the dark side :)

I second going to new alameda aquatics. steve is very nice and knowledgable. the rest of the staff is also great. also lucky in oakland is pretty good. i got a frag of rainbow monti for 40 bucks a couple of weeks ago.
