update on move

The new aquarium is up and running. The Ca reactor still needs to get hooked up and the light hood suspended. I need to tweak drains to quiet things.
I lost my fishes. I lost certain corals. I didn't lose any anemones.
Clams are doing fantastic. Skimmer pump needed replacing ( bad time for that. Thanks, ri!)
Other than that, I need to find out where my clean underwear is packed... :p

Glad to hear you survived! When you have time can you explain your flow? I'd love to hear what you ended up with.

Hey Gary,
Sorry again to hear of your losses. If it's not to painful, do you think you can explain why you think you lost the fish? It might be helpful for someone planning on doing a big move.
Did you have the corals and fish together?

Sounds like things are getting back to order. You must be sore as hell from the move and all of hard work you have been doing! What are the dimensions of the new tank? Post some pictures when you get a chanceââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦

Did you lose the zebra tang?! That is (was?) a great fish. I was thinking about making you an offer for it, but it seemed like you had enough folks on your trail already. Well, I hope that it made it; if not, my sympathies.

If he did not find them Jamie I am happy he is not coming to dr. meet sunday. lol Just kidding Gary I was hoping you would make it there.I hope you get everything running good.If you need help with any of the stuff left to hook up give me a shout I will come in the morning before the meet and do what I can to help.Just let me know Thanks Scott

It's right around 1600GPH with just the main circulation pump, Kent. Anything more is icing on the cake. :)

Corals and fishes were transported separately.
I suspect ammonia played a part in fish deaths, but I'm not sure.
These is no rhyme or reason as to what perished in the move, Randy.
For example: I lost both of my green Echinophyllia, yet both of my pink colonies survived totally unscathed.

Mark- thanx for the offer. Time heals all wounds.

I haven't found my camera yet. The new aquarium is exactly the same size as the old one that zanclus now has (72"x24"x30").

Sorry to miss the meet. :(

That is odd, and unfortunate. Kind of an unpredictable.

I'll make sure you get another sliver of Green Echino back. ;)

I heard that the cinder block was pretty nasty in there. I was pondering about the block are you still using it, or one?

Im sorry to hear about the losses.

Brian

The cinder block was not nasty. It didn't smell at all. I have no negatives to report about using cinder block except that detritus can possibly accumulate in it.
Still- I think good quality LR is irreplaceable. It's definitely one of your best investments. The only reason I used cinder block was to hide and protect the internal standpipes in my aquarium from shifting liverock.

My aquarium is still experiencing the effects of chain reaction die-offs right now. It's not a pretty sight- or smell.
It looks like I'll be starting over with a new rock stack and a few critters that survive this ordeal. I still have a lot to do regarding the whole house move- a lot of things are still in boxes.
If I ever move again it will be too soon.

If theres a frag of anything that I have that you wan't let me know Gary...

Speak for yourself about the smell of what came out of that cinderblock. I seem to recall dry-heaving:hmm4:

Scott

Scott- you might have dry heaved, but in reality it didn't smell any worse than a tidal marsh (for example). It was not a putrid sulfuric/rotten egg type smell. Live corals smell worse than that gunk did, IMO.
Thanks for offering a frag- I might take you up on that later this year.
