Updated pix of my ~450g fire hazard

Rip, with my sump return off a single wavebox gives me a one inch double wave. With the sump returns on for whatever reason it drops down to about a half an inch. I am gonna hook up the extension today.

Plusses and Minuses.

Definitely the finest/thickest foam/bubble column I've ever seen.
Dead silent
Extremely electrically effecient

I think that there are some design issues--the outlets placement etc....

On the plus side:
Literally the tiniest finest bubbles I've ever seen and it's SUPER thick foam. Literally like a latte top.
The skimmer is dead silent
Of course the vaunted electrical effeciency
It's actually not that hard to "tune" or anything like that. It's breaking in now and I've got it set to run wet, but I doubt it'd be all that hard to run "dry".

Con side:
The outlet pumbing--it comes out the bottom and is a dual outlet system. I think it would be better as a single larger outlet and out the side--the current result is a skimmer that is taller than it needs to be and for me anyways the height is more of an issue than the width. Also the dual outlets make for more complex plumbing than need be (remember mine is external).
The inlet--it feeds through the pump inlet via a one inch fitting. I don't like that location. I think it'd be better somewhere on the body of the skimmer. Course exactly where is an interesting question b/c the entire mass of bubbles goes vertically up and collides with itself on the way down--it doesn't swirl in a circle like say a Deltec but rather the bubbles go straight up like in a CC skimmer.

I think now they are with a single larger outlet.
If they put the inlet like Deltec on the side with a 45 D/A it will swirl around some in the chamber and stop the bubbles from colliding is much.

As I stated I am not sure where else to put the feed inlet without interfering with the water flow.

As for the outlets, the 400 and up externals as far as I know still use dual outlets. It's more an annoyance that given what you pay IMO shouldn't be there. I mean realistically a 50mm outlet (essentially the same as a 1.5") can handle passively 1400+gph. You don't need to flow anything near that through there. So IMO, a single outlet would work fine, but whatever.

Also, this is quibbling. Very, very seriously, the foam is unreal in this thing. I thought the Deltec made a thick foam...this is well beyond that.

Will try, but it's embarassing to show my electrical disaster that is essentially right around the skimmer. The best pix are the ones posted by gtrestoration of his BK300 internal.

I am not going for nog really. Wet skimming....I don't want to clean the neck often (there's no selfcleaning head on this thing, so I am going for wet skimming to cut down on neck cleaning...also, I have the thing set to drain constantly (I plumbed a drain line as well as water line in to the cabinet area so nothng collects in the cup....

I often wondered if anyone plumbed a skimmer drain out to a french drain outside ? or any other such leech bed for drainage. It would seem that it would make some nice plant/flower fertilizer, but I may be off base on that.

I am also interested to hear about the BK (although I just bought/invested in a Deltec 902, so no new skimmers in my futures for a while, unless I am forced to :)).

What are you planning to use for your calcium reactor ? or is this going to be FOWLR ?

CA reactor? If I really need one than probably the Deltec. I like the whole fluidized idea.

That being said, I'm hoping the kalkreactor is all I need (Barraquatic unit on order...).

CA reactors bug me.

gotcha... was just wondering... getting ready to trade up from my Deltec reactor to maybe a Schuran as they are alot more popular over in Europe (there has to be something to that, right ? :))

Sparkss

The salt would destroy the lawn. I use a salt solution to kill poison ivy in my yard.

Do you have any close ups of the BK? I have seen the others but I want some close ups:) Pretty please:)

Ugh, don't you guys have to get ready for thanksgiving or something????

I will try, but any freetime I have is currently devoted to Turkeyday prep. I got like 14 people coming over....

Moonpod,

What is your gph rating with the 3 RD pumps? and how much does the Wavebox help the flow in the tank? Do you think you could have scaled back on the closed loops if you had gone with 2 Wavebox's?

Just curious.

The movement is different. The RDs are the 12.5m RDs, so figure on US current they move 3500+gph. The waveboxes create a back and forth rocking motion. You still need current to move things. I am now using the second wavebox, but it's not having an impressive effect, so I am thinking of going back to just one.
