Upgrade to 70W sunpod from 96WPC coralife?

I have a 10 non drilled that has mostly softies, a crocea, a derasa and two green acros. I want to make sure i have the most light i can get in the tank to keep clams healthy and get more sps.

Will i notice a huge difference from the 96W quad pc coralife i have to the 75W sunpod i am thinking about? this will be sitting on tank, so i think that 75 is as high as i can go.

Any experience switching from one to the other? I have only had the coralife for 2 montsh and want to upgrade :).

If your talking about a 70w MH then YES. You will notice a huge difference. Much better light IMO. get it you will be happy.

they dont make 75w ones, but the 70w one would be fine for anything in your tank. How close to the tank do you have to have it?

I have to use the legs that come with it. thats it. no specials, no special requirements.

My question was will i see a big difference between the 96w PC and the 70W MH? i dont want to eat the 90 i paid for the PC and shell out 250 for the MH if its just a little different.

You can get a 70w MH for $140 shipped with everything but it come's in a pendant. PM me if interesed. Yes you will see a big difference.

Damn $250 is WAY too much. I just got 2 250 watt Metal Halide pendants, ice cap ballast, bulbs, and all wiring for $420 shipped from a guy on here. Just search on here and find you a good setup, unless you can't wait. Doesn't hellioslights.com or someone ahve a 70w setup for $140?

I just switched from a 10 with the 96 watt to an Aquapod 12 with the 70 watt halide, it was only $60 more to buy the Aquapod and get the light, there is a huge difference, everything really pops out more for color.

For sure go with the 70w Sunpod or the other fixture everyone else is talking about I got a 14k 70W sunpod for my 14g and love it I can keep anything in that tank and it grows and is in good shape

hello lights doies not have 70 W fixture for cheap, and the sunpod 20 inch 70Watt can be found for no less than 228.00 pre tax and shipping anywhere that i can find.

I am not willing to go with a pendant, because it needs to sit on the tank.

anyone have a link to sunpod 20 inch 70W for less than 228? or a comparable, mount on top 70W MH that is comparable for less? Otherwise I'm going to buy the sunpod. Thanks.

I am looking at the Sunpod 150 20"for 215, so I am SURE if you LOOK, you will find the 70w for under two bills....

lol i have been planning the exact same lighting change, i have the 96watt coralife and just got a 16.5 70 watt off ebay for 150, the 20inch would fit better but its 50 - 60 more so i will just improvise and have 4 less led's.. i should get teh light some day next week..

my justifications where:

a. more intense light
b. more lighting option (10k 14k 20k )
c. although the quad has more wattage half of it is actinic and the bulb blocks most effective reflection so in reality your not getting as much light as it sounds. i have had good results though and its not a bad fixture but the 70 watt will be better.

i also think it might be a cooler running light, even though metal halides are hot the sunpod has good ventilation and the coralife is pretty hot as it is..

Why not both? I have a 96wtPC Coralife over a 20cube and just ordered the Sunpod 70wt and plan on running the Coralife and suplemtn with the MH about 4-5hour day. Tank has been under the PC for about 1.5-2 months now and getting the MH to brighten up the rics. They grow and split like mad under the PC and under the 14000K they will color up even more.

Yes, I know that. I have the flip up legs on my 96wt so when i am home I will flip the light up and the 70wt will be hanging with the pendant hangers that come with it and be turned on then. Little extra work and all, but with a ten you probably need to just go the minumum and since you can't find the 70wt for less (I got mine for less than $140 shipped-new) then maybe selling the 96wt will help, though you won't get what it is worth. PM me if you want to know where to get it for that. Just trying to be helpful.
