I am planning to upgraqde my tank to somewhere around a 90 gallon, i have eveything i'll need for the build up, my pnly problem is the protein skimmer. I currently own a asm g1x and I don't think it's rated for a 90 gallon. So I was wondering if I can get away with a asm g1x?

i'm planning on keeping around 6-7 fish with one being a blue tang. I'm mostly into corals so i would like to be able keep anything.

I would upgrade the skimmer. G3 would be my choice :) .. G2 is fine if you upgrade the pump. You see a big different between the 3500 and 5000 pump.

that kinda hurts my feelings considering that i need to upgrade my whole system. oh well, i guess the upgrade is gonna be later on in my life.

FREE nothing is free, that soudns pretty nice tho. wherea re you located.

The G1x is rated for 150 gallons, even if you take half that at 75gallons you're still in semi ok decent shape. Probably could bring that rating up with a recirculating mod to it.

I was just thinking of the same thing. You'll have better performance out of that thing if you do a recirc mod.

oh wow i never realized that it was rated that high. I bought it long time ago and forgot.

in that case looking for a 90 gallon glass tank?

I have a g1x on my 55 gal. I bought it with the ideal of upsizing my tank to a 120. It will be a few(10-12) fish with alot of coral. I thought when I bought the skimmer it would work fine but now everyone at my LFS says it won't work. Could this recirc mod help my cause?

My suggestion is consider a 120g vs. a 90g unless you are really tight on space. The six inch difference in depth is big deal when you aquascape.

I suggest upgrading to a larger skimmer, but it will also depend on what your livestock will be in the future.
