Been thinking about upgrading my tank to a 220 gal I have a question about the transfer from my 90 How long will it take to cycle if I use the rock and sandbed from the 90 It has about 200 pounds of live rock and about 100 pounds of live sand any input to this change would really be helpful The new tank is going to be a reef
Thanks:rollface:

As long as you don't add any additional livestock right away, you won't need to cycle. Just watch for any kind of spike due to shifted debris when you move stuff....

I had no problems when I did the 54 to 75 Cross Town transfer and you probably won't when you move it across the room.

I agree with RandalB, the only thing I would worry about is the sand, given that you take care of the rock in transit. I just upgraded tanks and brought in 90lbs of live rock from a friend combined with the contents of my nano and all was well.

My transfer from the 55 & a 50g I was holding extra rock in to the 90, went perfectly! Still no ammonia spike or algae bloom, after 3 weeks.

Butch, Why aren't you answering youre phone?!

When I upgraded from a 120 to my 330, I moved all the rock (a bit over 100 pounds), 1/2 of the water and some of the sand to the new tank, and mixed it with the 700 pounds of new Southdown.

Tank didn't cycle at all.

Forgot to add, I had a 5" DSB that I had no problems to move either. Just added another 30lbs on the bottom.

i transfered from a 75 to a 220 and everything was fine. fish, corals...sps,lps and clams. i did not use the sand because I was afraid of causing the nitrates to explode and the whole tank to crash. so bought new sand and seeded it. hope that helps.
