Upgrading from 24g to 50, what could I add with my maroon clowns?

As stated, I'm getting to the point of moving my pair of Maroon Clowns over to my new tank, a 50 gallon cube. Before I do, this might be as good a time as I have to add some fish to let them get established first prior to the clowns.

However, I can't get much of a solid answer of what, if anything I can or should add.

Really, I just want to add some color but only if it's safe.

It'll probably be suggested, but I can't get rid of my maroons, they were my first two fish and my wife would kill me if I got rid of them.

Could you run two tanks? Keep clowns where they are then you got a new tank to make into what you want with no compatibility issues out the gate.

Nope. That'd defeat the entire process of the project. As odd as it is, this whole entire project of mine was built for my two clowns... Sadly, I'm stuck with these two, all due to a rookie error when I first started out.

I have a pair of Maroons (in a 150 gal though), and strangely they are tolerant of all my other fish. Even a little firefish that hangs out right by their nem. And my Bicolor Blenny heads over there a lot too. It's "Mr. Hand" they have this vendetta against. :lmao:

I'm thinking you can probably add a basslet and/or small wrasse or even a Pygmy Cherub angel (angels aren't always reef safe though). If you wind up needing a "tough enough" fish to hang with the clowns, look into a dottyback.

If they're already an established pair and if they're in the new tank first, - none. They will kill any newcomers. Add new fish first before adding your Maroon pair.

The Dottyback was mentined at my LFS... In a perfect world I'd add several, however, that seems a bit dodge as the dottys seem to not always get along...

They are still slumming it in the ghetto tank so I have the chance to add some new fish now, then move the bullies in with them.

Thanks all for the advice!
