UPS decides to take the day off -- Goldflake suffers

ordering on Holidays is asking for trouble. I dont ship anything even air cargo for 2 weeks over christmas and new years because even airlines are unreliable, I can't even imagine how UPS is. There is a reason they have holiday drivers to handle the overflow from orders.

Be safe, and wait until after the new year!

I think in general there's just always risk involved in our online ordering and that's compounded by holidays or in places with bad weather, like here in Michigan.

I wouldn't purposely avoid UPS as if they are somehow worse than Fed Ex or vice versa; it happens and it's horrible when it does and any delivery service can cause these issues. Several years ago I ordered a CUC that Fed Ex didn't deliver for two additional days after the due date. In winter. In Michigan. :( NO matter how many times I told them my LIVE animals weren't delivered they insisted they'd been 'checked off' as delivered. Well, after three days of sitting on a dock in a Fed Ex facility, in winter, in Michigan, all my little CUC guys were dead. :( Point is, it happens, and it doesn't matter which shipping company is used.

That's good things worked out, but also Ups and Fedex have been all over the news because of how backed up they are. I wouldn't order anything live for another two-three weeks. All of the returns are starting as well.

Yea that's impressive- we had a similar issue with our hybrid achilies - got here about 2 and was very scary but all worked out- if DD would quite dropping awesome fish around Xmas it may be easier for everyone

Here she is in the QT. Eating mysis this morning. I'll watch her for a few days then start the QT (which also houses a Cirrhilabrus cf. lanceolatus wrasse and Ventralis anthias) on Prazipro. Any concerns with this?

great it worked out but isn't ordering live animals in the busiest courier time of the year just taking on extra risk?

Ouch. It appears the greatest risk I took was posting the experience.

As it happens, I ordered and received next day air three fish from DD during the holiday season. We take small risks every day of our lives. I'm pretty comfortable with the ones I take, thank you.

I do agree that it is a risk to order live animals the last two weeks of December and through the first few days of the new year. This time is the busiest time of the year for shipping company.
If I have a choice I would either order early or after this period of time as it is the time when the logistic of shipping is at breaking point. I just don't wanted the added stress of things like this especially when I really need to spend the time with my family and not worry about things that I can avoid.
Each to his or her own and I am glad that it ends well.

Congrats! We all live and learn from our experiences and from the experiences of others who are kind enough to post them in this form. Glad everything worked out. Nice looking anthias as well.

Thanks to all. The Ventralis is one of my all time favorite fish. Sadly I lost the one in my avatar to a power outage early last year. I have been searching for a replacement since then. The new guy is pretty robust so far....

Ultimately my experience showed me that UPS takes seriously their next day overnight delivery obligations, particularly for live animals. While there certainly is some additional risk, it is from human error, not a system overload. I'm sure DD agrees or they would shut down during the holidays to avoid having to refund the cost of every fish that didn't make it! So I say: KEEP DD ALIVE! Shop with confidence! :lolspin:
