UPS - No not the shipper

I am interest to see what Power backup all the Large Reef tanks owners use.

Currently, I have 2 APC UPS that would give me 45mins of backup (pumps only). I could extend it to about 360mins with two external marine batteries. So far the worst outage I have was two hours.

Please share some of your knowledge and setup :D

Currently I have the battery vortech battery backup running my Tunze 6100's. I run this just in case the breaker pops when I am at work. If the power is going to be out for an extended period I break out the generator- a Honda EU2000iA. It is a clean power generator so I don't have to worry about frying pumps and runs for 15hr on one gal of gas. This thing saved my tank during Hurricane Ike, I went a week without power. IMO everyone should have a short term and a long term backup solution, you never know when a act of nature is going to knock out your source of power.

How many pumps are you trying to run and what wattage? I have a couple of small pumps with MJmods consuming about 19 watts each just for flow in the tank (point slightly up at the surface for maximum air exchange.) I don't run a backup UPS on the main pumps. I run a few UPS's in series and it gives me quite a bit of time, in case I'm not home.

I have the EU3000 for extended outages, and it's also saved me a few times.

How noisy is the unit? I will definately look into it :D

Currently, I have three tunze (60watts each) hooked up to one UPS. And 2 wavebox (40watts each) hooked up to another. But at best; they will only give me 45 minutes worth of power.

I am curious as to what others are doing with extended power outages.

Super Quiet for a generator, 53dB. 47dB is about the equivalent of a standard conversation 63dB is a about the same as a idling Car, so it isn't difficult to talk over. When I finally buy a house I am going to get the 6000 series wired into the panel with a transfer switch and a remote start. This way the Fridge's, the tank, and some other items like lights are tied to a backup system for when the power goes out again.
