I know some of you know this store in Plainfield "Upscale Aquatics". I usually dont go in there but I was looking for a cuke to keep my sandbed clean. I was looking at some of their coral selection and about dropped on the floor when I saw the prices on this stuff. They has a green moni with purple rim "3x3" frag for $89.00. All other monti frags were $69.99.

Its my understanding that they owned a LFS in Chicago at one point but shut it down. Where the prices the same there?

When I was testing for the Plainfield PD I stopped in upscale. I couldn't believe how ridiculous the prices were. I seen a flame angel for $79.00. After looking at there other coral and fish prices I just walked right out. The fish didn't even look healthy.

I stopped in @ Land & Sea (in Aurora) when I was at Farm & Fleet a few weekends ago and the kids working there told me that they also own Upscale Aquatics on Rt 59 in Plainfield.

I went in to Upscale in Plianfield last weekend. I was less than impressed with the quality of their livestock.

I'm primarily into fish, but they don't really look healthy to me.

It was a Saturday, and it was packed in there too so I couldn't really stand around and see everything.

I think that they had a circular tank that they have some sharks in and it circulates quite a bit of water.

I'll give my business to Deep Reef. Maybe Upscale will get better as their tanks mature a bit.

I went to the Land and Sea that opened north of plainfield, and they have very little for saltwater.

I second deepreef, Jeff is an awesome owner, and steve knows his stuff. I bought a beautiful big male flame wrasse yesterday from them.

the Plainfield Joliet area does need a good store personaly I'm tired of driving 2&3 hrs to buy goods mmmmmmm..if you build it....

I agree with you Bryanth73. That's why I went to check them out. I think the setup Upscale has there is a decent location and space, but they have to want it to be an awesome store and not just a place to move fish.

Frankly..it did kinda turn me off when I walked in there and one of the store workers was smoking away on his cigarette.

I used to live across the street from a terrific LFS up in Naperville that is sadly gone. It was called Larson's Pet shop. The owners were real great guys (Father and son), and I still have the maroon clown that I bought there 10 years ago.

I hope Upscale can get their tanks running and beef up the quality of livestock and make it a great store...be nice to have a good store just 3 miles away.

That guy that you saw smoking was probably Dan. He's actually the owner. I dont have much experience with Saltwater being that I've only been at it for a couple of months but I thought the 125gal setup that I purchased was priced well.

Don't get me wrong...it's his place and all... and he can smoke all he wants in there...just kinda turned me off a bit. Wouldn't be the thing keeping me from buying there, just an observation.

I can understand how that would turn someone off. Does kinda take the edge off of buying 2500 worth of stuff though. :)

I May have to check out some of the other stores in the area. I just dont want to have to drive for hours just to find a good shop. I already have to drive 45mins north to get there.

I'm not sure how long since you guys have been up there but I've kinda noticed an improvement in the health of their stock. Although they tend to mix species that dont get along all that well.

I recently purchased a yellow tang from there for my current setup and he seems healthy.

Does anyone know of Any Aquatics shops near Joliet?

hey wire...do you happen to know if that is a real boa that they had on a limb up near the celing? Looked pretty real to me. My wife disagreed.

Wire, I live down in Braidwood, and I know what a pain it is to find something that you don't have to drive an hour to visit. I like Hobbyland Pet Shop right off of Jefferson, across from the Inwood Skating Rink. His prices are fairly high, but he always brings in good livestock. He has started carrying corals, and gets those in for pretty good prices. However, eventhough I live an hour and a half from Rods Reef, it is more than worth the time, and gas. PM me if you have any questions.
