Urchin question

I got a tuxedo urchin on 11/25. I'd read online about them beforehand. The one thing I kept reading that frightened me was if the urchin loses spines, it means it's sick. So I've been nervously watching since day one to see if his spines are the same fullness. I can't tell if I'm paranoid or not, but I'm worried they look a little less full. I hope I'm wrong. But if I'm not, I'd appreciate any counteractive advice.

Without pics its going to be hard to help. Is there enough for it to eat. They can devour algae much faster then any snails and really need a ton to hold them. My tuxedo usually keeps spines in close but if go to touch him the spines all pop up and they are more visable

Thanks so much for your response! My tank is filled with algae. So long as it will eat whatever type is in there, there should be enough. You'll see how dirty my tank is algae in the picture I'll post, which always posts sideways for some reason.

Pictures post sideways because of the way you hold your phone when taking pictures. If you turn the top of your phone to the left where the top of the phone faces left and then take pictures they will be correct position.
