Well let's get right down to it

Current tank.
120g 48x24x24 sump less mixed reef

Two vortech mp40's

4brand new kessils

Warner marine H2 hob skimmer.....that's it

Well today I decided to do I complete cleaning of my h2 skimmer and 6 hrs later I cannot get my skimmer to work
Pump (Sedra 5000 ) just isn't strong enough...I had noticed skimmer was skimming weaker bout 3 weeks ago....have had h2 for about 3 years with no problem..............looking at about 100 dollars shipped for a new pump....but since pumps change over the years...an inch of change with the inlet/outlet would not fit

Looking for advice.
1) buy the pump....and cross my fingers it will work
2) buy another hob skimmer...h2 is no longer available, so not sure which hob to buy
3) overflow (external) to sump

I have always preached about my sump less system but was 100 % considering a sump for my next upgrade.....just so terrified of external overflows( floods in living room)(power outages)

Need help thanks

How does the impeller look? I say run what you got and if you want to go in a different direction plan for it and do it over time. Check the impeller first, check into a overflow box say Eshoop or Lifereef. Then check into a sump say a 40 gallon from Petco when they are having a dollar per gallon sale on tanks. You will need a in sump skimmer somewhere around 400 bucks and a return pump about 150 eheim 1262. PS Lifereef has the best reputation doe overflow boxes I would get the small at 600 GPH 135 dollars. It all adds up, so the one hundred does not sound so bad. Lots to think about.

Thanks mondoggy.....decided to leave tank , go out to dinner with family, relax, got home took skimmer apart again, took my time and skimmer was working fine, not sure if I left a part loose or what but skimmer is working better than before, I had cleaned it before but had never taken it apart. All is fine, thank you for your time and response
